As the COVID-19 virus spreads throughout the U.S., Valencia Pediatrics continues to reassess how we can best care for your children and our entire community. We are carefully monitoring recommendations from both the CDC and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health regarding the spread of the new coronavirus COVID-19. Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions.

Should my child come in to the office?

We are taking every precaution to keep our office disinfected. However, social distancing is crucial to slowing down the spread of this virus and we want to keep you away from as many people as possible.

We are currently restructuring how we see patients in order to protect you and your family. In the past, our mission has been to see any patient who wants to be seen, as quickly as possible. Right now it is not safe to continue this practice.

All persons entering the building are required to be wearing mouth and nose coverage such as a mask or a scarf.

We are not accepting walk-in patients at this time.

If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call the office to schedule. A doctor may call you back to discuss your concerns prior to scheduling to determine if you require a car visit or an in office appointment. Only non-contagious appointments are in office.

If your child is having difficulty breathing or is any respiratory distress, they will need to be evaluated at the closest emergency room.

We are eliminating the use of our waiting room. If you are coming to the office please use the Healow app to check in, if you are unable to use the app, you can call our main telephone number when you arrive in the parking lot this will start the "check in" process, you will be called into the office when we are ready for you.

Are children at risk for COVID-19?

Children around the world have been infected with this new virus, but it appears they are not becoming as sick as infected adults. Many cases have been found only when entire families are getting tested. This is good news and bad news. It means for otherwise healthy kids, we do not expect them to become very sick. But it also means that many kids are going to have COVID-19 and not know it. Please follow current recommendations to stay away from other people at this time. Children should not go to stores or to restaurants. Children should not be left in the care of their grandparents. Children should not have play dates at this time.

Can my child get tested for COVID-19?

Valencia Pediatrics is equipped to test your child for COVID-19 with same day results in most cases. If there is any concern your child may be exhibiting symptoms of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and has been exposed to a potential contact, please contact our office for testing.

What should I do to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

Please help your children wash their hands frequently. If you do not have hand sanitizer, warm water and soap work even better.

Help with anything that might keep your children from touching their faces. Can their hair be tied back or kept away from their face? Do they suffer from seasonal allergies and do they need daily medicine to keep from rubbing their eyes?

Please stay home. Please stay home if you feel fine. Please stay home if your child has any sick symptoms. Please be mindful of older family members and those close to you with underlying medical conditions: those are the people we need to protect.

Again, if there is any concern your child may be exhibiting symptoms of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and has been exposed to a potential contact, please contact our office for further directions.
